There are four mayoral debates left in Hamilton’s municipal election as we enter the final two weeks of the campaign leading up to election day on Monday, October 27.
Two of the debates are limited to the three “mainstream” candidates and the other two are open to all candidates.
Wednesday, October 15
CBC is holding a debate in their studio with only three candidates. CBC stated on Tuesday they had invited all candidates but other than the three “mainstream” candidates, none had shown interest. Michael Pattison and Micheal Baldasaro both stated they responded to CBC with interest in debating. Crystal Lavigne states CBC never invited her.
Lavigne states she will attend to take up the public broadcaster’s invitation.
The CBC debate starts at 7pm on their website.
Thursday, October 16
The Flamborough Chamber of Commerce debate is traditionally seen as one of the most important of the race. Held at Waterdown District High School, the debate is always held in front of a full auditorium of citizens – many undecided. The mayoral is the final act on a bill that includes debates by the Public School Trustee and Council candidates for Wards 14 & 15.
Saturday, October 18
The Hamilton HiveX conference will include a mayoral debate open to the public at Hamilton City Centre at Wilson and James. The debate is being held in partnership with the CBC.
Hamilton Hive is organizing the debate and is including all mayoral candidates.
CBC’s Samantha Craggs will moderate the debate.
The debate starts at 3pm. Watch for CBC’s live video of the debate on their website: http://www.cbc.ca/hamilton
As it is my policy to not compete with the CBC, I will not be streaming this debate. I will be at the debate and will write about it. (CBC’s live video will save me the cost of streaming the debate which would be approximately $100 in bandwidth)
Wednesday, October 22
The final mayoral debate will be at McMaster University hosted by the McMaster Students Union. All mayoral candidates are invited.
The McMaster Silhouette livestreams many events on campus, and live streamed the provincial election debate back in spring.
