From the Excalibur at York University:
The Supreme Court of Canada declared that York University president Lorna Marsden is considered a public officer and, as a result, may face court charges from a student involved in a 2004 protest.
Following this ruling, Marsden, as well as York University’s Board of Governors, now can be charged for “misfeasance in public office.”
This is another victory for the public in the sense of holding publicly funded post-secondary institutions accountable.
I have met Ms. Marsden and found her to be a good person. This having been said, the incident that occurred raises some questions that are best dealt with in a transparent, fair way by our courts.
