As Council votes on a proposed increase to the size of HSR’s upper management, funded by cutting three front-line positions, the question must be asked what has been done in light of the arbitrators ruling that found a qualified female candidate did not seek a promotion to senior management out of fear of losing union protection against sexual harassment? (Para 170 of ruling)
If the council approves staff’s request to add two upper managers, what will be done to ensure qualified women are applying for the positions?
The answer, from the City Manager’s Office, is that his office is working on a report to be presented to Council in January on changes to the culture of the HSR.
This will likely coincide with the start of the hiring processing for the two new upper managers.
We’ll have to wait until January for the answers, but issue isn’t going away anytime soon.
