Original Story

The former bowling lane site at Charlton and Wentworth is getting a major infill development if City Council agrees with the **a staff recommendation to approve ** a plan to build two six-storey and one five-storey building for a total of 162 condominium apartments on the long, slender property at the foot of the escarpment.

Staff scaled back one of the buildings by on-storey to five-storey to maintain sightlines to the escarpment.

Originally a bowling alley, the former one-storey building has been a cab and ambulance depot in the past decade before being demolished this summer.

The development is being opposed by many in the surrounding neighbourhood who are concerned about the height of the development blocking the escarpment view and other issues.

Ryan McGreal writes a very comprehensive review of the plan, and a counter to community opposition.

Rather than repeat his work here, I strongly suggest visiting Raise the Hammer and reading his story on this development.
