I rarely note celebrity deaths, I’ll make an exception for the death of George Michael to share how I associate him with the Persian Gulf.
When I flew to the Persian Gulf twice on assignment in 2008, each of my four flights on Persian Gulf airliners included his full catalog of music. On the ground, it was not unusual to hear Mitchell’s songs in local shops.
The music catalog seemed limited, and with 16.5 hours each way, I had plenty of time to take repeat Wham! songs.
I never figured out why Micheal was so popular in the Gulf.
