Police Find Dynamite in John Street North House

Six sticks of dynamite were found in a John Street North house by Hamilton Police Thursday night. The discovery – just before 9pm – prompted police to close John Street from Robert to Barton.

Police were executing a drug warrant when they discovered the explosives. The explosives unit, assisted by a Canine Police Dog, search the home. They found the dynamite and detonation caps. The caps were taken for evidence, but the dynamite was found to be unstable.

Police did a controlled burn of the dynamite on the 245 Catherine North property.

One person was arrested, Supt. Michael Shea stated at the scene around 2:45am.

John was reopen shortly after 3am.
