A strong band of thunderstorms are heading towards Hamilton and expected to hit the City overnight with the potential for strong winds and torrential thunderstorms.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement in advance of the system, which is upgraded to a Severe Thunderstorm Watch this morning.

EC says the storm will arrive between 3am and 4am.
