Tuesday links to go with coffee

  • I could write a shocking headline for this story: “City Council supports creation of student pub!
  • It appears President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is finally going to be stripped of his honorary University of Massachusetts degree. UMass president Jack M. Wilson is backing calls by state representative Kevin Murphy to revoke the degree at the next UMass board meeting in June.
  • The New America Foundation asks Americans if they can name all their tax breaks for post-secondary education. Probably just as difficult a question in the Canadian context.
  • I’m confident this is yet another column that Gordon Campbell didn’t expect when he magically created new universities.

Yesterday also saw the publication of two student newspapers, University of Toronto’s The Varsity and Simon Fraser University’s *The Peak.
