Early Morning Fire at St. Joseph's Hospital Quickly Put Out By Security

St. Joseph’s Hospital security staff discovered a small fire in the service area adjacent to an elevator in the Charlton Avenue site’s Juravinski Tower.

The fire was extinguished by security staff and the Hamilton Fire Department called.

No patients were effected, the smoke did not enter the ventilation system, and hospital spokesperson Megan Bieksa says there is no impact upon patient care.

The elevator received minor damage. Bieksa says a repair person is on site and the elevator is expected to be in service before 9 a.m.

“The elevator is ready to be reset by our repair company we’re expecting full service to return within the hour.”

The tower has three elevators for patients and visitors, plus an additional site of service elevators.
