Suspected Shooting on Sherman
A young man in his 20s was taken to hospital without vital signs after a suspected shooting on Sherman Avenue just north of Barton Saturday morning.
Police, Paramedics, and Fire responded to the report of a shooting at 4:39 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found the victim without vital signs.
At 5:30 a.m., the highest ranking Hamilton Police officer on duty – the Duty Inspector – was on scene. They are only called for the most serious of crime scenes.

Multiple Alarm Fires
Our Fire Department was very busy overnight with two multiple alarm fires at the same time. In addition, they provided support to paramedics at numerous other incidents across the City.
Both fires were in homes with no one present and there were no injuries as a result.
At 2:27 a.m., neighbours called 9-1-1 for fully developed fire at 254 Herkimer Street.
At 3:47 a.m, neighbours of 65 Beland called 9-1-1 for a fully developed fire.

Damage is estimated at $600,000 after a fire gutted a family home at 254 Herkimer, on the north side approximately in the middle of the block between Locke and Kent.
The family is away on vacation. Hamilton Fire officials were able to reach them and the family told Fire officials they have insurance.
The fire was well developed in the walls of the house before it was noticed. Fire crews arrived on scene to find flames shooting out the roof of the home.
An immediate search of the home was conducted by the first firefighters on scene. Once confirmed no one was home, crews focused on protecting the homes on either side of the burning building.
The fully developed fire was stubborn. Hours later – as this is being written – crews continue to fight the fire.
The Fire Marshal is being requested by Hamilton Fire to assist with determining cause.

Crews fought hard to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighbouring garage. A search was conducted. Once confirmed the home was vacant, crews aggressively attacked and put out the fire.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
The Fire Marshal is being requested by Hamilton Fire to assist with determining cause.
